About Tamil Nadu Fisheries University

Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University was established in 2012 to improve the fisheries sector of Tamil Nadu State. Institute of Fisheries Technology, Nagapattinam was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu with a budget provision of Rs.34.08 crore. Subsequently, the Institute of Fisheries Technology has been renamed as the College of Fisheries Engineering considering the growing importance and emerging needs of fisheries engineering sector.

College of Fisheries Engineering is a constituent college of TNJFU and it is located at the coastal town of Nagapattinam along the Bay of Bengal. The College is first of its kind in the Country established in 2015 with the sole aim of developing engineering personnel for the fisheries industries.

It is a 4-year degree program [B.Tech.(Fisheries Engineering)]. This degree empowers the graduates to be an able engineer in the areas like aquaculture engineering, fish processing engineering, fisheries nautical & marine engineering, basic engineering(Civil, Mechanical, Computer Science, Electrical & Electronics) that could support and compliment the fisheries industries.

Admission Details

Tamil Nadu Fisheries University (TNFU), offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs. The university conducts entrance examinations for PG and research programs whereas, for UG courses, students must register themselves by filling the application forms online. 

The Faculty of Fisheries Sciences and Faculty of Fisheries Engineering offers B.F.Sc. and B.E. courses respectively at the UG level. Admission is conducted on the basis of marks scored in the qualifying examination.

For UG courses Candidate must have completed senior secondary school from CBSE or any other recognized board of schools OR should have passed an examination holding equivalent value. Students looking for admission can apply online by visiting the official website of TNFU. The application fee is INR 600 for open category candidates & INR 300 for SC/ST & SCA.

TNFU enrolls students in its multiple M.F.Sc. programs through entrance examination. The applicants hailing from Tamil Nadu have a reserved seat percentage of 75% whereas 25% is for the candidates from other states who have qualified ICAR. There will be a separate merit lists for the Tamil Nadu candidates and those hailing from other states.

For PG courses He/she must hold a B.F.Sc degree of the Tamil Nadu Fisheries University or from any other recognized University or should have passed an examination holding equivalent value. The university calls upon the eligible candidates for counseling, based on the rank that they have secured in the entrance examination. During the counseling process, they have the opportunity to select any of the subjects which is available at the moment or choose to register themselves in the waiting lists.

Candidate should visit the university website firstly and click on the “Admission” to download the Prospectus which contains detailed information regarding all the courses (eligibility criteria, mode of selection, counseling procedures).

Students must carefully check for the eligibility criteria in the Prospectus. After ensuring the fulfillment of the same, they should proceed towards the application form by clicking on the “Online Application” link which should be followed by the “Apply Now” option.

After verifying all the details, students must “Save” the application form. The final step will be to click on the “Submit” option followed by the payment of the application fee. After that candidate will receive an SMS carrying their Login ID and Application number. While the Login ID must be used to download the form in order to get a hard copy of the application form, the Application number should be used as a reference for any queries.

Demonstration cum Training Program on Fish Processing technologies

One day Demonstration cum training program on Fish Processing Technologies was conducted for the fisherwomen and entrepreneurs of Karaikal along with the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) of Karaikal, who also sponsored for this training on 12th November 2019 at Fish Processing Incubation Facility, College of Fisheries Engineering, TNJFU, Nagapattinam.

Vigilance Awareness Week-2019 was observed by the College of Fisheries Engineering College of Energy and Environmental Engineering jointly on 30th October 2019 on the theme "Integrity-A way of life".
